Ernie Muehlmatt
   
 



Ernie is a three-time winner of the Ward World Championship Wildfowl Carving Competition, winning twice in miniatures and

once in decorative life-size. He is a member of the Carvers Hall of Fame.

His bird carvings are included in some of the leading public and private collections in the country, including the Ward Museum of Wildfowl Art in Salisbury, MD, the Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum in Wausau, WI, and the Smithsonian Institute in Washington DC.

 

He is known for his one-piece sculptures that have elevated bird carving to the art form of wood sculpture and for his use of burning for color. He has shared these skills with his students throughout the United States.

Ernie lives with his wife, Kathy, in Salisbury, MD, where he carves and conducts workshops.
